Accessibility
The journey to Mustasaari is accessible. You can move with a wheelchair or other mobility aid from the pier in Taivallahti to the ferry, and from the ferry onto the island. The ferry staff will assist you if needed. Most of the paths on the island are easy to navigate, and stairs do not need to be used. On the Hevossaari side, the paths are narrower and more challenging. Mustasaari also has a wheelchair available for loan, which you can ask the staff about.
There are ramps leading to the main building, the chapel, and the boathouse. Access to the granary, Stidilodju, and the sauna involves stairs. One accessible toilet (inva‑WC) is located in the main building and includes a baby changing table. Another accessible toilet is located near the swimming beach.
Communication on Mustasaari is largely handled through various signs, which we strive to make as clear as possible. Information is provided in Finnish, English, and Swedish. In addition, we make announcements about important matters in Finnish and often also in English. Our staff speak Finnish and English, and may also speak other languages depending on individual skills.
If you need assistance during your visit or have any questions before your visit, you are always welcome to contact the island’s staff.
